Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. When trying to reduce your environmental impact the primary focus should be on reducing the amount of waste generated, followed by reusing anything you possibly can, and finally recycling whatever is left. Recycling rather than discarding prevents thousands of tons of rubbish entering landfill sites every year and saves even more chemical by-products entering the atmosphere when waste is incinerated.
Recycling and reusing are always the best options, however, it’s also important to know which items can’t be recycled. Mixing non-recyclables with recycling can actually cause more damage as it may result in the entire load becoming contaminated and discarded. So which items and materials can and can’t be recycled?
One of the most obviously recyclable products, paper is easy to recycle and widely accepted. All types of paper can be recycled as long as it hasn’t been treated (e.g. laminated or waxed) or soiled. Recycling paper not only prevents wastage but also prevents further deforestation.
Aluminium, steel, tin, and copper are all great candidates for recycling. They can be recycled with very little or no material loss and reused endlessly. Whether from packaging material in drinks or food products, or vehicle parts and other industrial products, metal should always be recycled.
Not all types of plastic can be recycled. Plastic bags require highly specialised equipment and processing techniques that often isn’t available due to cost, for example. Other types of plastics such as those used for hard-plastic bottle caps (polypropylene) are unable to be recycled at all.
Generally, anything from your garden can’t be recycled but often can be turned into compost. Garden cuttings, weeds, removed plants, or soil shouldn’t go into the recycling bin.
Often you will be able to recycle or reuse waste materials at home. However, if your local area doesn’t offer services, or you have a particularly large amount of materials you may require dedicated waste removal and disposal.
By promoting recycling and re-use strategies, we aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our local area and lessen the impact of our consumer society.

I just wanted to let you know how impressed we are with your efficient service.
I called at 9.30am and got a quote to remove some household waste, received a call back 30 mins later and your team were then onsite and the job completed within the hour.
Great value for money, courteous service and we will definitely recommend you to others.
Thanks for making everything so stress free!
I called your rubbish removal company this morning, having found you in the Yellow Pages. Your rubbish removal guys called me and told me when they were coming, arrived with smiles on their faces, got rid of the junk – and it was all over and done in a minute!
I will be using your junk removal and collection service again – it’s hard living in a unit and not having anywhere to take rubbish to – your guys were AWESOME!
Please tell them ‘thanks’ from me.
